Samantha McDermott: The Get America Fit campaign has personal significance for SamanthaMcDermott. As a severely overweight child, she struggled with her weight andphysical condition. With the help of loving family and friends, she replacedher passion for sweets with a love of sports and has been a fitnessenthusiast ever since. McDermott started running competitively in high school, where she captainedtwo state championship cross country teams. Recruited by ColgateUniversity's Division I track team, she set the javelin record her freshmanyear.
Today, McDermott provides business advice and education to fitnessprofessionals through the Spencer SBA. As the international distributor forthe National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association, McDermott worksclosely with the government of Malaysia's Ministry of Youth and Sports, ontheir aggressive public health initiative. She recently launched NESTA Global Fitness Japan where with endorsements from major universities andhealth club operators, she is helping to create an elite class of personaltrainers in Japan. McDermott has been described as, "the most tenacious andpassionate health and fitness advocate we've ever seen."
An entertaining and motivational speaker, McDermott lights up her audienceswith her wit and insight developed as a nationally recognized televisionreporter and news director. Recent speaking engagements include the annual International Health and Racquet Sports Association conference and a guest appearance on Malaysia National Television.
Kelli Calabrese, MS, CSCS, 2004 Personal Trainer of the Year. Kelli is an international presenter, author, personal trainer, lifestyle coach, spokesperson, women’s fitness expert and 20 year wellness professional. Kelli is the Editor of Personal Fitness Professional and Wellness & Fitness Entrepreneur magazines. She is the Author of Feminine, Firm & Fit – Building A Lean Strong Body in 12 Weeks and a contributor to both “The Power of Champions” and “The Women Doctors Guide to Health and Healing”. She was the lead fitness expert for eDiets and eFitness from 2000 – 2003 and remains a regular contributor.
She is a Fitness Expert for iParenting.com, Family Energy Magazine and Beauty and Lace. She is on the advisory board for Athletic Baby, Healthy Children’s Catalog, Purdue University, The Personal Trainer Business Alliance and has been a spokesperson for The American Council on Exercise. She was the Lead Exercise Physiologist to NESTA (National Exercise & Sports Trainer Association). Kelli was also an Expert Fellow for the National Board of Fitness Examiners.
At the age of 22 Kelli had completed 3 Science degrees including an Associates in Biology, a Bachelors with High Honors in Exercise Physiology and a Masters in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Science. Since 1986, Kelli has acquired twenty four fitness and nutrition-related certifications including boot camp, kick boxing, SPIN, PACE, Pilates, Personal Training, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consulting, Nutrition Specialist and more.
She co-owned and operated a chain of 4 fitness centers (Xercise Inc.) and 4 corporate centers with clients such as Calvin Klein Cosmetics, Nabisco and Beneficial Insurance. Calabrese opened Xercise Institute, the first school for preparing candidates for the American Council on Exercise's Personal Training exams. In 9 years, her school prepared over 3,000 students with a 90% passing rate, to become certified as Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultants and Clinical Exercise Specialists.
In 2000, Kelli began Calabrese Consulting LLC which focuses on reaching both fitness professionals and consumers with her passion for fitness and wellness. She helps trainers grow prosperous careers through the FITT Academy, personal consultations, group presentations, writing, editing, audio programs and at industry conferences. She reaches consumers through online training, phone coaching, magazines, TV, radio, audio programs, group training, books, pod casts and live seminars.
Kelli is an Nautilus and Pearl Izumi Sponsored Athlete. She is on the Board of Advisors for Exercise TV and The Get America Fit Foundation. Kelli runs a women’s fitness camp as a licensee of Adventure Boot Camp.
Her personal mission is to empower individuals with the tools to make health, fitness and wellness a permanent part of their lives so that they can lead longer, stronger productive and prosperous lives.
Christina Lucy has spent the majority of her life involved in the fitness industry. It all began in 1983 wearing leg warmers and a fuschsia sweatband instructing aerobic classes to the tunes of Olivia Newton John and a newcomer to the music scene; Madonna! A lot has changed since the 80's, and thankfully a lot has changed with Christina and Madonna too!
Christina is a multi-level certified fitness instructor. She holds a bachelors degree in marketing and has taught group fitness classes for nearly 20 years. Christina is certified through RRCA as a certified running coach. She is also a POSE Method certified running coach, NESTA certified personal trainer, PACE circuit training instructor, certified personal fitness chef, certified online personal trainer, and has training in ropes course facilitation. She co-developed the Adventure Boot Camp educational program, and the EZ8 Running Coach Business Program.
Christina's most recent venture is developing the Christina Lucy Company. This is a company designed to take Christina's passion for food and fitness into fun and easy programs for others. She offers Healthy Cooking Classes, Grocery Shopping Tours and a variety of Fitness Classes in Orange County, CA. She also offers online training to those outside of her community. Bill Gobin (original founder of Get America Fit) is a personal trainer with over 16 years experience in health, fitness, athletic training, weight loss, toning, and overall physical transformation. I am personally committed to getting 100 million pounds of fat off of the world. Bill has worked with over 7,500 clients in all areas of health and fitness, and he toured U.S. schools and spoke to more than 20,000 children about the benefits of health and wellness. Since 2005, he has hosted fitness camps in 7 major U.S. cities. Bill awarded more than 200 free health club memberships to families throughout the U.S.
Bill’s education includes an AS from Henderson Community College, Henderson, Kentucky - Associates in Arts. Michael Seril, MS is recognized as an active member of the fitness community, both in Orange and Los Angeles County and on the national scale. He is the owner and founder of Michael Seril Fitness in Whittier, CA, where he has networked with Presbyterian Hospital and Bright Medical Associates, two of the largest medical facilities in the city. From there he has forged a strong relationship with medical doctors, health educators and registered dietitians by offering free health and fitness seminars to the community. His class, “Exercise is Medicine,” informs 60-80 people every month about the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. The class also includes a newsletter, which is currently read by more than 8,000 readers every month, and the number continues to grow!
Michael earned his Masters and Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Physiology & Exercise Science from California State University Northridge in 2002 where he was also an instructor for Weight Training and Fitness for Life courses. For his thesis project during graduate school, Michael designed and implemented an exercise program for the Civilian employees of the LA City Fire Department. In addition to his Masters Degree, Michael is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the American Council on Exercise, the American Academy of Health, Fitness and Rehabilitation Professions, and is recognized as an IDEA Master Fitness Trainer.
He has contributed to the national media as a writer for Reuters Media Company, The Washington Post, and Men’s Health, Shape, Get Active (IHRSA), Maximum Fitness, Muscle & Fitness and Skin Deep magazines.
In 2006 Michael partnered with the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. In the same year, he was named by the NSCA as the 2006 Personal Trainer of the Year and a finalist for the 2006 ACE Personal Trainer of the Year award. Michael continues to make strides toward achieving his dream of integrating “exercise” and “medicine” into the same sentence.
